Mid Point Presentation (27/05/09)

Basically, our mid point went quite smoothly but still has more to research on.

  • Need to use other microphones to actually test the difference and which is better for field recording.
  • www.mandy.com (reference SITE.)
  • Unique sounds of Singapore (more hit sounds needed)
  • Focus more on understanding the techniques used in recording
  • Try to get an interview with any production houses
  • Get questions done for interview
  • research more on techniques(and format) rather than understanding codes/whatever for catalog. (i think a simple archiving will do)

So, thats what we need to do from now. jia you guys!

Amen.

Official meeting with Advisor (18/5/09)

Upon returning the equipment borrowed from last week, we had meeting with our advisor, Mr Ng.

We showed him our progress and the trial recording that we had, recordings done with both the H2 Zoom and Tascam. Unfortunately, The quality of the H2 zoom and some other recordings was not ideal for a sound library.

We have difficulties eliminating noise, the sound of the wind is not ideal. And also, the positioning of the microphones. We had a hard time recording the sounds from the lift as our cables was not long enough to stretch all the way into the lift. Also the crickets, they are so sensitive that when we approach them, they STOPPED. the sounds they makes actually confused us where the sound come from. LOL.

There is where we gain our experience and knowledge that we figured out ourselves.
*That's the way, ah uh!*

From the meeting, we learn new things from Mr. Ng, like the contact microphone and the wind shield that is needed for the mics. which is all so useful to our recording! =)
*Thanks, Mr Ng.*

What we learnt from recording and meeting:-
· Planning
· Trial runs of recording
· Experience gained
· Know the equipments like the settings
· The techniques to use them
· People to contact (Production house, Sam Yap, Jason Yap)

Contacting different people to know what kind of sounds is needed for different industries, and what is the standard for each. More research on sampling rate, bit depth, imformation on recording settings.

More to come soon.

Scheduling our time and locations (24/4/09)

Now, we decide which sounds can be record like together rather than seperately. As in, our location of the place we wanna go and record, will have to fit in our time slot.

So we decided to like combine some places together to increase our speed.

And we decided to go around admiralty park and school first!

On (13/5/09)
We got our equpiments! and these are the sounds we recorded:-

· Lift
· Toad/frog
· Cricket
· Singlish
· Chatters (ambience)

Here are some pictures to show that we worked.

*Bound to play sometimes.* =)

Just these few, it took us from after school till 10.30pm including dinner. I guess, due to our lack of experience and knowledge to arrived to that slow. I reckon our work would be better and faster in pace too!

Borrowing equipments on (6/5/09)

borrowing of equipments is such a headache for me. Although it seems like an easy job, its NOT.

Borrowingg of equipments need a loan form to proceed but we did not know at all! So, i wasted 1 day doing the equipment loan form and have to wait for 3 working days to be aprrove to loan out.

I at least sent 3 mails to my advisor for loaning of equipments just because of not writing mentor names (which i do not know what is it used for).

In the end, we are only able to get our equipments on 11/5/09 (Monday) due to the 3 working days thing.

Its time to record, guys!
